Elc Kowalapule (エルク コワラピュール Eruku Kowarapyuuru)is a human male Hunter, the only survivng member of the Pyrenian tribe, and the lead protagonist of Arc The Lad II alongside Arc. Born in the village of Pyrenia, Elc watched his family get murdered by the Romalian Empire at a young age during their attempts to take the Flame Guardian from Pyrenia. After his attempts to retaliate using fire magic failed, he was kidnapped and used a research experiment at the White House. However, he was able to escape and traversed the world by himself until the hunter, Shu, came across him. After this, Elc relocated to the city of Prodias and became a Hunter from a young age and quickly rose up the ranks among the hunters of Prodias.
After a job gone awry, Elc would eventually become wanted by the police and became an international target of Romalia and The Cabal. He was not without his own demons however, as his trauma from Pyrenia and White House often came back to haunt him. This would lead to him harboring a hatred not just for Romalia, but for Arc as well, who he blames for causing the destruction of Pyrenia due to the Silver Noah being present at the time. However, after learning the truth from the Flame Guardian in the basement of Palencia Castle, Elc would ally with Arc and become one of his fiercest allies.
He would later go on to appear in Arc The Lad III attempting to take down The Academy, joining Alec and his allies along the way. Later, he would appear in Arc The Lad: Kishin Fukkatsu, joining Finia in her quest to stop Grogalde as he returns to the past to attempt to destroy her. Dialogue from Boomer in Arc The Lad: Twilight of the Spirits implies that prior to his death, not only was Elc revered as one of the world's greatest hunters even to the current modern day, but that he eventually settled down and married Lieza. After going on to appear as one of the earliest Character Cards in Arc The Lad: End of Darkness, he would later go on to appear in the Arc The Lad R timeline, where he would create his own resistance group, Flame Shield, as a response to Sania and his allies refusing to act on the Aldian Empire's growing presense.

When Elc was a young child his village was raided by Romalian soldiers where he witnessed the murder of his family. Elc was taken from his home and sent to the Chimera Research Lab at White House in order to have his flame powers researched. He would make friends with other children Mariel and Ginie. Elc eventually notices that the other children around him are disappearing, sensing that something was wrong Elc along with Mariel attempt to escape from White House while being trailed by Cabal members. Elc loses Mariel on the way but manages to escape vowing to return to rescue her one day. Elc makes it to East Aldia but collapses in the desert. He is rescued by a Hunter named Shu and is taken to safety in Prodias. Elc eventually becomes a Hunter and establishes a new life for himself in Prodias.
